Items to Help Your Child Read and Learn

There are so many ways to help your child read, but the truth of the matter is that he or she will tell you what works. You'll try just about anything to ensure that your child is a good reader, but it takes time and patience. Some kids just take off reading when they get out of the womb, and others take their own sweet time.

Board Games and Other Aids Can Help Your Child Read

There are tons of board games, games you can just make up yourself, and other reading aids that can help your child read. Of course, your child's teacher will be the best resource yet! These games, gifts, and reading tools are fun and they help your child read!




Quiddler is a fun game for early readers. Ages 5 and older.

 

 

Pop for Sight Words is an easy game and helps build early literacy, increase vocabulary, and improve fluency. Ages 5 and older.

 

 

 

Snap it Up! is an exciting, fast-paced card game provides kids with hard-hitting practice in reading skills. For ages 6 and older.

 

 

 

This fun game was developed for beginning and struggling readers. It has won multiple awards and includes memory games, flashcards, and independent readers.

 

 

 

Apples to Apples is a fun game that contains 576 cards that players have to make crazy comparison while expanding their vocabulary and thinking skills. For ages 6 and older.

 





This classic game puts letters together, build words, add up your points and win!

 

Fast and fun. Players race against each other to build crossword grids and use all their letter tiles first. Great for travel.

 

               

Read With Me Scout is a cuddly companion that provides the perfect interactive introduction to reading. It has 5 interactive touch points, 70+comprehension questions, and books. It teaches comprehension, early vocabulary, and book and print basics.

 

 

LeapFrog Leapreader Reading and Writing System sounds out words, reads sentences and lets kids play games as they learn to read and write. Your child will build comprehension skills and vocabulary while using this fun learning tool.

What else can help you Child Read?

Responsibility Chart (give rewards for daily reading, chores, homework,etc.).You can write down the important things that need to get done and check them off when they're done. You can add fun rewards such as after 100 minutes of reading you'll take them for ice cream, let them stay up 30 minutes later, watch a movie, etc. You can also just use a calendar to keep track of this.

Just a few reasons to use Reading Guide Strips are they help a child to keep their place,  it helps with concentration, and is easy on the eyes. It also helps a variety of other reading issues. Kids love these and they really do help your child read! They also come in different colors!

 

Blue Toobaloo Auditory Feedback Phone - Accelerate reading fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation with a reading phone. The Auditory Feedback Loop is basically the process of saying what you hear and hearing what you say. This device accelerates reading, fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation. The younger kiddos like to use these!!


Phonics DVD Set is a set of 4 DVDs that break down various aspects of phonics such as consonant and vowel letter sounds, rhyming words, etc. It teaches the beginning and ending blends, long vowels, diphthongs, how to break down words phonetically, etc. etc. This is an entire phonics program.
